Earning her stipend 5-Jan-01 |
||
| Summary : | ||
| Kicking the new year off on a positive note, I thought that we might begin by making a list of politicians who really seem to be earning their pay. The thought might have stopped their, as the list turned out to be rather shorter than might immediately have seemed possible. The exhaustive list carried only one name: Patricia De Lille, of the small opposition party, the Pan Africanist Congress. Throughout December and the first week of this year, she has been (loudly) voicing her concerns regarding the executive pressure building up to disempower Judge Willem Heath, and possibly his entire commission, from the probe into the R43bn arms procurement controversy. She has threatened to take the matter to the high court on the ground that the executive may be contravening a legitimate resolution of the legislature. De Lille has taken parliament to court before, and won. This time, her efforts have won support from the least likely of sources for the PAC. | ||
